Dandruff – a layer of peeling and dry sin on the scalp – is a universal and exasperating hair problem. The development of scratchy, flaking rash on the scalp is the root cause of this problem. This condition that causes the development of flaking rashes on the scalp thus cause dandruff is called seborrhoeic dermatitis. Occasionally it affects other areas of the body i.e. eyebrows, chest, beard, groin and back etc. leaving the skin of affected area red and swollen.

What most dermatologists believe is that dandruff as well as seborrhoeic dermatitis are caused due to sensitivity towards a yeast known as pityrosporum. Though small numbers of pityrosporum are present on the scalp of every human being but those who suffer scaly scalp have large quantities of it.
Besides this, the deficiency of certain minerals or vitamins also results in dandruff. Fulfilling the deficiency of the lacking vitamin and minerals can help you a lot in overcoming dandruff. Moreover, some natural treatments are also there that are useful in solving the problem.

Dandruff Treatment

Traditional remedies of dandruff include selenium sulfide, sulfur and salicylic acid, zinc pyrithione, or tar shampoos. If the problem is severe then hydrocortisone cream works the best.
Diet – Never intake fried food supplements. Also lessen the use of dairy products, fats, seafood, sugar, peanuts and chocolate. Instead, consume plenty of green leafy vegetables and unprocessed foods.

Biotin, a water-soluble vitamin B, Vitamin B complex (B1 and B2), Vitamin A, Omega fatty acids, and Zinc intake may help in minimizing the dandruff problem. The natural sources of Biotin are nuts, sardines, bananas, yeast, liver etc. It helps in breaking down the proteins, fats and carbohydrates.

Natural Dandruff Remedies

Grapefruit seed extract: Add a little amount of grapefruit seed extract in the shampoo and wash your hair with it.
Tea tree oil: Pour few tea tree oil drops in the shampoo; stir the both well and use for washing hair.
Apple cider vinegar: Apply on the entire hair as well as the scalp and wrap a soft and clean towel on the head. Leave it as it is for 60 minutes and then rinse.
Selenium-based shampoo: Use a shampoo having selenium; it can relieve the problem due to its anti-fungal properties.
